The Parade
This series grew out of an observation: how societies create rituals around success, and how individuals are shaped, celebrated, and sometimes controlled within those systems. The Chinese “Zhuangyuan” phenomenon — where top exam scorers are treated like national heroes — became one clear example. The parade is a spectacle. The “Zhuangyuan” sits on a horse, controlled by unseen hands, her face blank. The series follows her moment of awakening — breaking free — and the chaos that follows when a system's favorite figure steps out of line. Visually, I used realistic pencil drawing to make the scene feel believable and almost documentary-like, with a dark, satirical undertone that exposes the absurdity beneath the celebration.
