Born Together
This series started as individual assignments, each made in response to a different prompt — a poem, a story, an idiom, or an editorial piece. But as I kept working, I noticed I kept coming back to the same instinct: putting human figures next to animals, plants, or natural textures, as if they belonged together. That instinct was something I later found words for in Robin Wall Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass — her writing on reciprocity helped me understand something I already felt, which is that humans and nature are constantly giving and receiving from each other. So these pieces, even though they started separately, began to feel like parts of a larger conversation about that exchange. Visually, I wanted the work to feel warm and immersive — I used high-saturation colors and layered digital brushes to mimic the texture of traditional media. The goal was to leave room for emotion.
